Cypress Information

Cypress (many times referred to as Cypress-Fairbanks, or Cy-Fair) is an unincorporated area of Harris County, Texas. It is situated the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston, and only about 20 miles from Downtown Houston.

The history of Cypress began with the Atakapan Indians, who disappeared on the arrival of the German settlers in the mid 1800’s (many Cypress city streets still have German names). Over the last 20 years, it has grown from a rural area into one of the largest suburban communities around Houston.

Cypress has a number of attractions including on of the oldest dance halls in all of Texas, Tin Hall”. It has been running since the 1800’s. It is also home to the Berry Center, (an $80 million multi-use complex featuring a football stadium, basketball arena, conference center, auditorium and more.) There are also numerous golf courses, including: Longwood Golf Club, Blackhorse, Houston National, Cypress Lakes and Cypress Golf Club.
